cj и, а, с (1). Союз and соединяет глаголы, обозначающие действия, совершаемые одним и тем же лицом, предметом или группой лиц, в утвердительных предложениях. В отрицательных предложениях союз and не употребляется. В этих случаях употребляется сочетание never…or:She never writes or reads in the evening — По вечерам она не пишет и не читает.
(2). В разговорной речи союз and используется с рядом глаголов, таких, как to come, to go, to stay, to stop, to try, to wait, вместо частицы to и последующего инфинитива. При этом такие сочетания описывают только одно действие и наиболее часто используются для выражения приглашения, предложения, увещевания:Come and see us more often. — Приходите к нам почаще.
Let's go and play chess. — Пойдемте поиграем в шахматы.
We stayed and had dinner. — Мы остались пообедать.
В этой конструкции глаголы to try и to wait обычно употребляются в форме Future:I'll try and answer the question. — Я попытаюсь ответить на этот вопрос.
I'll wait and see/I'd rather wait and see how things go. — Я посмотрю/я лучше посмотрю, как пойдут дела.
(3). Однородные подлежащие, соединяемые союзом and, как правило, согласуются с глаголом-сказуемым во множественном числе:My friend and his sister are now on holiday.
(4). Подлежащее, состоящее из двух однородных существительных, соединенных союзом and, согласуется с глаголом-сказуемым в единственном числе в случаях:а) если оба слова характеризуют одно и то же лицо (один и тот же предмет, одну и ту же идею): The great scientist and social leader begins a new campaign — Этот великий ученый и общественный деятель начинает новую кампанию (В этом случае артикль употребляется только один раз. Повторение артикля перед каждым существительным указывает на то, что это разные лица, и в этом случае глагол-сказуемое употребляется во множественном числе (см. 3): A great scientist and a social leader begin a new campaign — Большой ученый и крупный общественный деятель начинают новую кампанию);б) если однородные слова описывают одно целое:Bread and butter is good to have for breakfast — На завтрак хорошо съесть бутерброд с маслом.
Black and white dress was very becoming to her — Ей очень шло черно-белое платье;
в) при инвертированном порядке слов после наречий there, here, которые объединяют предметы ситуационно в один комплекс:Here is your hat and gloves — Вот они ваша шляпа и перчатки.
There comes the old man and his son — Вот идут старик с сыном.
г) если подлежащие выражены инфинитивами (но не герундиями!):(5). Если союз and соединяет определения к существительному, то: а) артикль может быть употреблен перед каждым определением. В этих случаях существительное стоит в форме множественного числа, что, таким образом, указывает на то, что речь идет о двух разных предметах или лицах, и глагол употребляется в форме множественного числа:To work in the garden and thus make his living was what he dreamt of — Работать в саду и этим зарабатывать себе на жизнь было его мечтой.
A black and a white dogs were sitting at the doors — У дверей сидели черная и белая собаки;
б) артикль может быть употреблен только один раз. В этом случае существительное стоит в форме единственного числа, что указывает на то, что оба определения относятся к одному и тому же предмету:A white and black dog was sitting at the door — У двери сидела черно-белая собака.
(6). Идею соединения могут передавать разнообразные слова и словосочетания, весьма близкие по значению к союзу and: also, as well, too, not only… but also, besides, in addition to:We went to the circus. We visited the museum as well.
We went to the circus. We went to the museum too.
We went to the circus as well as the zoo.
We went to the circus. We also visited the zoo.
Not only did we go to the circus, we also went to the zoo.
Besides going to the zoo, we went to the circus.
In addition to visiting the zoo, we went to the circus.
Paul went to the circus. So did Peter.
Конструкция not only… (but) also требует инвертированного порядка слов. (7). Предложения, соединенные союзом and, отделяются друг от друга запятой:We went into mountains, and we stayed there for a few weeks.
Если часть сложного предложения, вводимая besides, in addition to, not only, стоит в начале сложного предложения, то она отделяется запятой:Besides buying these books, we bought a few pictures.
In addition to visiting the zoo, we went to the circus.
Not only did we go to the circus, we also went to the zoo.
